Traditional Light Bulbs Phased Out

New plans announced by Minister for the Environment John Gormley will see traditional light bulbs phased out.

Minister for the Environment John Gormley has announced that the current range of traditional light bulbs available will be halved by March of next year.

The policy is being introduced to tackle Irelands greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change and our carbon footprint. The plan will also enable consumers to make savings on their energy costs. Energy efficient bulbs last up to 10 times longer and use 20% of the energy compared to traditional bulbs.

The Minister plans to phase out the sale of traditional light bulbs in a four stage process. The first step in March will see traditional light bulbs with an electrical power consumption of 75 Watts or more removed from stores. iBERcon the independent BER assessors welcomes the Ministers initiative.
